School issues dress code.....for parents.

At some point, you've driven or picked up your child from school, not dressed to be seen in public. At James Madison High School in Houston, they are instituting some changes in order to keep that from happening. Earlier this month, Principal Carlotta Outley Brown sent out a letter to parents letting them know that that they will have to follow a dress code when making a trip to the school.

The parental dress code prohibits: sagging pants, Daisy Dukes and other short shorts, super short dresses, uncovered leggings, revealing tops, men's undershirts, hair rollers, shower caps, a satin cap or bonnet, torn jeans, and “pajamas of any kind."

Students in the school are required to wear uniforms and it seems Principal Brown wants parents to have the same standards. The letter says, “To prepare our children and let them know daily, the appropriate attire they are supposed to wear when entering a building, going somewhere, applying for a job or visiting someone outside of the home setting, I am going to enforce these guidelines on a daily basis. We are preparing our children for the future and it begins here.”

The letter also states that parents not following the dress code will not be permitted in the school.

Needless to say, reactions have been mixed. Those against the dress code are calling it discriminatory. Those in favor say the parents should have to follow the same dress code standards that the students do. (USA Today)
