It's cookie season! Technically cookies are popular any time of year, but during the holidays, chocolate chip takes a serious backseat to the many shapes, styles, and flavors that are baked around the world. A recent warning by the FDA will have bakers and anyone who prefers licking the spoon to eating the cookies to take note. It's not just raw eggs that could make you sick from the batter, it’s the flour too!
There's a particular strain of bacteria that can be contracted from eating raw flour (called Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O121), and it's become prevalent in the last year or so. You're basically taking a major risk when eating raw dough because you've got two ingredients that could potentially make you sick.
So eat all the cookies you want this holiday season ... just make sure they're cooked! (Today)
