There's been an ongoing heated Twitter debate over Sesame Street characters. The question posed was:
If you were stranded on an island and could only take one Sesame Street friend with you....which would it be? Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster or Elmo?
I'm a kid who grew up watching Sesame Street. So I took the question into consideration.
Grover is the sweet personality. Oscar is definately Grouchy, but his demeanor has--frankly--also endeared him to me over the years. I mean, who doesn't have a grouchy day here and there?
As for Cookie Monster, it was a no brainer for me. He'd eat all the cookies. And that would be an issue.
Elmo? Well, Elmo wasn't even born to Sesame Street when I was a kid. And quite frankly, he was a huge fad when my kids were little so I've had my fill of Elmo and can do without him.
And then I started to wonder about the varied cast of characters on the show...and it dawned on me they'd left out some very important choices.
Where is Count? Wouldn't his numerical knowledge help out in some way on a deserted island?
And where is the Big Bird choice? A friend of mine pointed out that he'd be a great friend to have on an island, because he can reach into the tall trees for coconuts and fruit. And it's been a very long time since I tried to climb a tree, I'm not even sure I could still do it.
And I love, love, LOVED Snuffy. He was like...the Eyeore of Sesame Street, in my opinion.
I'm gonna ask y'all about this on our facebook page today, because I'm feeling like some Sesame Street folks got left out. And my heart hurts for them. ;)
Which character would YOU want with you on a deserted island?
