AG to sue the Army Corps of Engineers over Bonnet Carre Spillway opening

Jim Hood says Mississippi shouldn't be the federal government's "dumping ground" for polluted floodwaters. And the attorney general says he plans to sue the Army Corps of Engineers for diverting ten trillion gallons from the Mississippi River into the state's coastal waters. Hood says the federal government should pay for the environmental and economic damage caused by the Corps' decision to keep the Bonnet' Carre Spillway open for 123 days to protect New Orleans. The intrusion of fresh water into the Mississippi Sound destroyed the state's oyster reefs, decimated the shrimp and crab harvests and led to toxic algae that closed the beaches hurting the tourism industry. Hood says there's got to be a way to manage the Mississippi River without harming the Mississippi Sound.
