During a recent interview with British Vogue, Emma Watson said she is very happy being single but she prefers to call herself "self-partnered."
“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she continued. “It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered."
I understand what she's saying, I totally get it. There is this expectation that people - women especially - need to be married or in a relationship to be whole, to be happy, so she's rejecting that. But by referring to herself as "self-partnered" doesn't she just reinforce the idea that we need to be "partnered" to be happy?
