Moss Point Library offers Roblox Club for students
Students interested in computer gaming are invited to join the Roblox Club at the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library beginning Thursday, August 15 and again on August 29, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone age 10 and above may play Roblox with friends and others at the teen computer area - or bring your own laptop. All will be able to enjoy this fun-filled game whether beginner or advanced. Share new strategies and game worlds and get a chance to win fun prizes. St. Martin Library to offer Living Better with Essential Oils
The St. Martin Public Library will offer Living Better with Essential Oils on Saturday, August 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., for “Pets and Essential Oils” in the meeting room. Summer is almost over. That means time for the kids to go back to school. It also means more exposure to all kinds of things, and you need to be prepared. Jennifer Krebs, Young Living Independent Distributor will present an informative class that is full of tips and tricks for you to keep those kids healthy, happy, and focused all school year long so you can get the Mom or Dad of the Year Award. There is a $5 fee for those who make a sample.

Pascagoula Library hosts Bingo for adults
The Pascagoula Public Library will host Bingo for adults on Saturday, August 17, beginning at 2 p.m. in the meeting room. Enjoy a rousing session of Bingo at the library and win prizes. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Everyone is welcome. Those under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. Fundraiser in Honor of Transplant Recipient
Gulfport, Miss., For immediate release — Meridian resident Patty Driskill has a new lease on life. In 2007, she was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease of unknown origins. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there was no family history. Driskill’s lung function declined over the years and she required the use of supplemental oxygen to help her breathe. Doctors said a double-lung transplant was critical to her survival. Thankfully, Driskill received a transplant on July 30, 2019!
Driskill, a wife and mother, is thankful for the transplant that saved her life and will give her more years with her family. Unfortunately, her second chance at life comes with a high price tag.
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which covered a portion of the transplant costs, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Further complicating her situation, Driskill lives more than 150 miles from her transplant center, and frequent appointments have made it expensive. Now that she has received her transplant, she has to temporarily relocate to be near the transplant center for up to six months while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Driskill’s declining health forced her to stop working, further adding to her financial burdens.
For fundraising support and guidance, Driskill and her family turned to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for assistance with some of these financial burdens. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds to pay for transplant-related expenses.
On Monday, August 19, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., there will be a spirit night fundraiser in honor of Driskill at Texas Roadhouse, 15510 Daniel Blvd, in Gulfport. Just bring a copy of the special event flyer or show it on your phone and Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your total food purchase to the National Foundation for Transplants in Driskill’s honor.
