Governor Warns About Possibility Of Unemployment Tax Increase

Gov. Reeves says unless the legislature acts to replenish the state's unemployment trust fund, small businesses could be hit with a 950% tax increase next year. The Mississippi Department of Employment Security says it needs $500 million to refill the fund. Reeves says he's concerned that lawmakers will choose to fund "feel good" programs instead of unemployment insurance leading to an automatic tax increase.
