People always say happiness is a choice, but a new study by WalletHub might have you “choosing” to live somewhere else if you want to be happy. The research ranked cities across the U.S. based on three main categories: 1) emotional and physical well-being, 2) income and employment, and 3) community and environment.
According to the rankings, these are the happiest and least happy cities in the U.S.:

- San Jose, California
- Irvine, California
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Sioux Falls, South Dakota
- Huntington Beach, California
- Scottsdale, Arizona
- Santa Rosa, California
- Pearl City, Hawaii
Least Happy:
- Detroit, Michigan
- Charleston, West Virginia
- Toledo, Ohio
- Huntington, West Virginia
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Gulfport, Mississippi
