If you're from South Mississippi or have lived here a long time, you probably LOVE spicy seafood. And, being a southerner, you probably drink a lot of coffee.
I know I have frequent heartburn and have used Zantac some over the years. We learned some on this a few months back, but now the FDA is urging the popular heartburn medicine Zantac to be taken off the market because it was found to contain the cancer-causing chemical NDMA.
Stores have been asked to remove all prescription and over-the-counter versions of Zantac from their shelves, and anyone who has it at home should throw it out immediately. The FDA explained, "The agency has determined that the impurity in some ranitidine products increases over time when stored at higher than room temperatures and may result in consumer exposure to unacceptable levels of this impurity."
Some safe alternatives being suggested for heartburn sufferers include Pepcid, Tagamet, Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec. (Forbes)
