My very special memory. R.I.P. Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh's wife Katherine made the announcement at the beginning of his show today that he had lost his fight with lung cancer. Being a long-time "radio guy," I was a huge fan of Rush as an on-air talent. He was quick, creative, funny, compelling, harsh at any given second, yet able to endear himself to millions of us as a harmless little fuzz ball. A great memory of mine was back in 1996. Rush, at that time, had a television show that was a :30 minute version of his radio program. My Dad had recently retired and we took a family trip to NYC. My Mom, being the organizer that she was, had most things planned out, including tickets for Dad and myself to sit in the RUSH television audience. Remember- This was prior to all the internet/easy booking scenarios that we're able to enjoy today. This planned trip/tickets happened via the USPS and a landline. Dad and I arrived, were in awe of Rush and loved being in the audience. It was one of those bucket-list experiences. After the first show, they shuffled us around and taped the next night's show! (Rush was out that next night.) What a memorable trip and a great Father/Son experience. I'll have to go through those shelves of VHS tapes in my closet and find the one that showed Dad/Me in the Rush audience. Hopefully I still have it. R.I.P. Rush, and Thank You from this ole' radio guy. Click below to follow the story on WBUV
